Comprehensive Ophthalmologist

Dr. Gelbart is an ophthalmologist who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of anterior and posterior segment eye disorders. He has particular expertise in modern cataract surgery and lens implant surgery, including multifocal and toric (astigmatic correcting) implants. He is also an expert with laser surgery for glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment and a variety of other eye diseases.

Dr. Gelbart serves as Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of California, San Francisco, where he is involved in the residency teaching program. He has served as Associate Examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is also past chairman for the department of Ophthalmology at St. Mary's Medical Center where he remains a senior staff consultant.

Dr. Gelbart is a board certified eye physician and surgeon who has been practicing in San Francisco for more than 30 years. He completed his residency in ophthalmology at the University of California, San Francisco, followed by a year of fellowship at the Smith Kettlewell Institute. He is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is also a member of the California Academy of Eye Physicians & Surgeons.
